The Boys in Brazil
The final race of the 2011 Formula One season has arrived. While Sebastian Vettel wrapped up the title a long time ago, there is still much to race for in Brazil.
12 months is a long time in Formula One. Last year a handful of drivers had a chance to win the title, this year there has only been one driver in the race for the title. Sebastian Vettel has won 11 out of the 18 races this year and been dominant ever since he won the opening race of the season in Australia. He has pole position for this final race and betting has him far ahead of his competitors.
The best of the rest, Jenson Button currently occupies second place in the drivers’ standings. He has won two races this year and currently sits on 255 points. The Brit has enjoyed a very consistent year and hasn’t been worst than sixth in the races he has finished. After Vettel, he is considered the next favourite to take this Grand Prix.
Then there is Fernando Alonso who is 10 points back on 245. In 2011, he has managed to win one race, only failed to finish one and was between seventh and second for the rest of the year. Unfortunately for him, he just didn’t have the car to have better results on a consistent basis.
Mark Webber is the only driver in the top five not to have won a race so far in 2011. He has had his chances with several pole positions but his starts have been horrendous and his strategy has also been questionable. He didn’t finish once, but every other finish was between fifth and second, which demonstrates the quality of the Red Bull car, but there have been question marks about his driving at times this season. There was talk that someone else may replace him but, for now, it looks as he will stay.
Lewis Hamilton has had a very up and down year. He has won three races, second only to Vettel, but failed to finish twice and only recorded three other podium finishes. He has had a number of run-ins with other drivers and Hamilton will be the first to say he hasn’t had the best of years. If he is up there with a few laps to go, he may attract the attention of live betting.
The top three, especially the winner, are expected to come from these five drivers and anything else would be considered a major surprise in the final race of the year.
Formula One Betting - what you need to know:
- Sebastian Vettel is the defending champion. The last driver to go back to back at the Brazilian GP was Juan Pablo Montoya in 2004-05.
- Vettel, Mark Webber, Felipe Massa and Michael Schumacher are the only active riders to have previously won this race
- Vettel had a record 15 pole positions in 2011.
How will the 2011 Formula One Season end? Will Vettel end the year in style? Whatever happens, it should be a fascinating race.
