Festive Fun
There is no doubt that the York Ebor festival is one of the highlights of the sporting year and this year's installment should be no different.
The York Ebor Festival is a four day race meeting, taking place every August at the York Racecourse. It has been going for over 160 years and is one of the most eagerly anticipated sporting events in Great Britain. Each of the four days has a number of feature races.
Three of the bigger races include the International Stakes, The Yorkshire Oaks and the Nunthorpe Stakes. In the Nunthorpe Stakes, Sole Power will be hoping to defend his title. Last year he won as a 100/1 longshot, but this year will have to contend with the likes of Overdose and Bapak Chinta.
Then you have the Ebor Handicap which is easily one of the biggest races of the year. It is on the second day and this race has a rich history. Over the years the likes of Dirar, Sesenta and All The Good have won it.
The Juddmonte International Stakes Odds for 2011 are looking just as exciting with everyone wondering what will happen this year after last year's exciting race where Rip Van Winkle prevailed.
Then you have the Yorkshire Oaks which is a race that is over 160 years old. Only two horses have defended their title with Islington the last to do it in 2002-03.
The Lonsdale Cup is another race that is well followed. Last year Frankie Dettori stormed to victory on Opinion Poll.
The Gimcrack Stakes is named after Gimcrack who was a very successful horse. Last year Approve won with Eddie Ahern aboard.
All in all the festival is four days of non-stop racing action. Hopefully the weather will play its part this year and make for good going.
